Welcome to Shangrila, the mysterious heaven on Earth. In a Buddhist temple in the 1930s, the monk Gendun Choephel sought to breathe new life into a backward country that was governed by religious fundamentalists with archaic ideas. These were his hopes at the time of his death during China's invasion of Tibet. Nous sommes à Shangrila, mystérieux toit du monde. Dans un temple bouddhiste des années 30, le moine Gendun Choephel ne veut pas d'un pays déphasé gouverné par des instances religieuses aux idées archaïques. Ses espoirs ainsi que sa vie s'éteignent au moment de l'invasion du Tibet par la Chine. Tout en relatant l'existence de ce moine allumé et fascinant, Luc Schaedler nous emmène également à la découverte du véritable Tibet d'aujourd'hui, loin des clichés. Les traditions tibétaines se confrontent au progrès chinois ; les monastères et les caravanes de voyageurs jurent avec les discothèques et les autoroutes.
